The new year is often a time of reflection and ambitious goals. It’s the busiest time of the year for gyms. People commit to start a diet. Others focus on monetary goals, like spending less money.
I don’t often commit to lofty goals just because it’s the new year. However, 2026 is different.
The past few months have been an opportunity to find the aspects of my life which aren’t serving me anymore. I’ve been reading through old journals, reviewing my health data, and contemplating the milestones which have brought me the most joy. It’s also been an opportunity to think about the rapid technological changes which are upending our professional lives.
New Technology Requires a New Approach
Whether we like it or not, artificial intelligence is here. It is being incorporated into our professional and personal lives. I was reluctant to use it, but I found practical applications.
For months, I found myself feeling lost. I hoped this blog would evolve into something bigger. I didn’t know what, but I felt like I had something. Then, generative AI began to rapidly improve. It can write blog posts, generate multimedia content, and, most importantly, affect search engine results.
My conclusion is that, as more people use tools like Chat GPT or Claude or Gemini, less people will make their way onto most blogs. However, portions of my posts might make it into a helpful response from their AI agent.
And, while I can dwell on the impact that this will have on blogs, it will not change the outcome.
The Importance of Adaptation: Developing a New Skillset in 2026
By now, you might be saying: “Wow. This post is a downer.”
Perhaps you’re right.
However, we know that those who adapt will survive. This is true in nature, society, and the workforce. This also brings me back to my original point- my goals for 2026.
My goal for 2026 is to pivot from a lifestyle of consumption to a lifestyle of output.
What does this mean? This means fixing things. Learning about mechanical objects. Monetizing skillsets for tasks which aren’t easily repeatable. Creating a life of personal autonomy. Contributing to the economy.
It’s scary. It won’t be easy. But it’s essential.
I have specific goals and objectives, but, to hold myself accountable, I’ll be sharing those as I achieve them. Documenting these experiences is a great motivator for myself. If a few people find that information helpful, that’s even better.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this page. I truly appreciate it.
